President Trump Addresses Immigration at SOTU

Congratulations to President Trump on his acquittal from the partisan impeachment attempt by Democrats. Now that it’s over, lawmakers should get to work on a lot of issues including sensible immigration reform.

In his State of the Union address, the president talked about his administration’s successful efforts to improve border security, saying that border apprehensions have decreased for eight straight months and are down 75% since May and that ICE deported 120,000 criminal undocumented immigrants last year.

While border security continues to improve, the opportunity and willingness among lawmakers to fix the rest of our broken immigration system should increase, especially in regard to the remaining 11 million undocumented immigrants who are working every day and doing their best to stay out of trouble.

President Trump said that he is “working on legislation to replace our outdated and randomized immigration system with one based on merit, welcoming those who follow the rules, contribute to our economy, support themselves financially, and uphold our values.”

The president also highlighted a long list of economic successes our great nation has achieved under his administration. The fact is, our economy is booming and unemployment has gotten so low that there are now 6.8 million open jobs in the economy and employers are struggling to find workers to fill them.

Obviously, most of the 11 million undocumented immigrants who have years of on-the-job training and are critical to our workforce have “merit.”

We should create a method for those who can pass background checks to earn legal status and require that they work for employers who deduct and match taxes. It is not complicated!

ID and tax them!

I applaud the president’s pledge to American workers and his plan to “offer vocational and technical education in every high school in America.”

Please contact your lawmaker and ask them to work on passing sensible immigration policy.

May God bless you, and may He continue to bless America.
